Media Contacts/Policies
The Marketing and Public Relations Coordinator, Erin Al-Mehairi, handles press stories and media inquires during normal business hours (Monday through Friday), and after hours by appointment. She can be reached at (419) 207-7890. She may also be reached after hours or in an emergency, by calling the Hospital Operator.
In the event that you have an emergent media
inquiry after normal business hours, and it concerns a patient or breaking news story, please call
(800) 257-9917
and ask to speak with the House Supervisor. If needed, a representative from Marketing and Public Relations will be called to assist you with your story.
For photo opportunities, the marketing and public relations coordinator, or other marketing and public relations designee, must accompany any photographer or videographer. They will have appropriate consent forms.
SRHS complies with the rules and regulations that the Ohio
Hospital Association has developed for journalists and
reporters
covering patient and breaking news from any of Samaritan's
facilities.
The Federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act of 1996 (HIPAA) mandates that hospitals have both a
legal and ethical responsibility to preserve the rights of
each
patient and there are multiple guidelines that Samaritan
complies with in doing so. One is the use of a Facility Directory,
which
will provide health information on patients to families,
friends and the media but is restricted by four key factors:
- Name
- Condition
- Location within the hospital
- Religion
Patients also have the opportunity to "opt
out" of
being listed in this directory, therefore making
any information on their health status unavailable to outside
sources.
While the HIPAA privacy regulations restrict the
information that health care providers like Samaritan
may release,
patients are free to release their own personal information
or to
consent to interviews providing it does not interfere
with their medical
treatment.
For questions about Samaritan's media policy, please call Erin Al-Mehairi, at (419) 207-7890.
