UH Samaritan Volunteers Honored at Annual Luncheon

Volunteers are vital to an organization like University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center, and those individuals were honored Wednesday, June 6 during the Annual Volunteer Recognition Program, held at UH Samaritan on Main.

While all volunteers were acknowledged for their collective efforts, over 25 volunteers were recognized for reaching a milestone with the Volunteer Program.

Five volunteers retired from the program: Eva Gault at 36 years, Liz Greshner at 14 years, Helen Harris at 28 years, Lenore Reich at 17 years, Marlene Rose at 22 years and Halina Weidinger at 13 years.

Donna Geary was recognized for 35 years of service, while Joyce Imhoff, Marcia McCourt and Cora Walker were recognized for 30 years.

Celebrating 25 years with UH Samaritan is Bonnie Hobson and Nancy Kopp. Reaching the 20 year milestone is Shirley Bowers, Debby Gray, Barb Hissong, and Marilyn Thompson.

Kay Earlenbaugh, Kati Finley, Joanne Kroft and Scot Myers have served as volunteers for 15 years. Georgia Bonecutter, Joyce Bowers, Betti Fraas, Linda Fulmer, Carol Hartsel, Connie Lash and Carol Obrecht were acknowledged for 10 years of service.

And celebrating the five year milestone is George Bartley, Karen Beaver, Ruth Ann Donelson, Ellie Grubb and Cindy Thomas.

Volunteers earning “Special Mention” – those volunteering 200 or more hours the past year - include Dick Obrecht at 671 hours; Pat Triolo at 467 hours; Martha Price at 464 hours; Allen Aber at 422 hours; George Bartley at 386 hours; Barb Volpe at 370 ½ hours; Beanie Bowersock at 304 ½ hours; Donna Bright at 296 hours; Jackie Glazier at 285 ½ hours; Sharon Cianciola at 241 ½ hours; Georgia Bonecutter at 239 ½ hours; Suzanne Schoonover at 232 hours; Ellie Grubb at 213 ½ hours; Cat Berry at 203 hours; and Carol Obrecht at 203 hours.

The Gift Shop volunteers presented $20,000 to UH Samaritan Medical Center at the event which will be used to purchase family care bags and items for cardiopulmonary services, physician offices, and emergency management services.

The Samaritan Hospital Foundation has matched the gift. UH Samaritan departments receiving items from the matching donation include the acute medical surgical unit, pharmacy, lab and cardiopulmonary and rehabilitation services.

In honor of the 13,285 ½ volunteer hours given in 2017, the Samaritan Hospital Foundation made an additional donation in the volunteers name equaling the total hours. Equipment purchased with that donation includes an ultrasound table, an orthopedic recliner, a special rug used for pediatric gait training, a vital sign monitor, harmonicas and home waste drug disposal units.

UH Samaritan Medical Center is currently seeking volunteers for The Gift Shop, especially the 5-8 p.m. shift. If you are interested, please call Jill Hartson at 419-207-2547.
