Signals
All items served at Sam’s Café are identified with either green, yellow, or red labels. Green means to eat and enjoy; yellow means to eat moderately; and red means to eat sparingly or eat occasionally. These colored labels provide a simple way for Sam’s Café patrons to make conscientious food choices.
Items fall under the green, yellow or red category based on a nutrition system that measures total fat, saturated fat, calories, and sodium – the four major nutrition concerns recognized by the 2010 dietary guidelines. The nutrition system is called Signals.
Among other things, Signals helps individuals maintain a healthy weight while promoting a variety of food options. It is also meant to decrease total fat, saturated fat, and sodium consumption.
