The Arthritis Aquatics Class at the Samaritan Health and Rehabilitation Center is a custom designed, water-based exercise program that promotes a variety of movements to increase strength, flexibility and range of motion. These elements help to relieve arthritic pain and stiffness. Joint mobility is also maintained, another key component of managing arthritis.
Pain and swelling that is associated with land-based exercise can be greatly reduced or even eliminated with water-based exercise. That’s because your body is weightless in water, relieving pressure on your joints. Range of motion can be controlled as well. The warm water of a therapeutic pool like the one at the Samaritan Health and Rehabilitation Center loosens muscles to further ease pain and help you relax. Additionally, resistance from the water strengthens all of your muscles for a total body workout.
While a physician’s order is not necessary for participation in the Arthritis Aquatics Class, your physician must grant written approval to participate. Physician approval forms are available at the Samaritan Health and Rehabilitation Center at 2163 Claremont Avenue.
