UH Samaritan Endoscopy is a patient-focused service devoted exclusively to endoscopy procedures. Patients will appreciate the non-clinical atmosphere throughout their short stay.

In preparing for the procedure, it is very important that you read and follow all of the instructions given to you for the procedure. Without proper preparation, the test may have to be repeated. If you have any difficulties or questions about the procedure, please contact the physician that scheduled the test.

After signing in on the day of your procedure, a nurse will interview you, and will need a current list of your medications, so please bring that information along. You will then change into a gown and an IV will be started.

Please make arrangements to have a responsible adult drive you home after your procedure. The medication that you will be given during the procedure may cause drowsiness, making it unsafe for you to drive or operate machinery. A family member or friend may stay with you both before and after the procedure, in one of six patient recovery bays, each equipped with amenities, or in the comfortable waiting area.

Several area physicians perform the scheduled and elective endoscopies. Dr. Dale Thomae, Dr. Mary MacDonald and Dr. Mehrdad Tavallaee perform procedures on specified days. Inpatient, emergency and high-risk endoscopic procedures will take place at UH Samaritan Medical Center.
